George Ohr’s National Challenge: The Juried Exhibition
September 19 - November 7

Artist from twenty-eight states are participating in the return of a major juried art exhibition, the George Ohr National Challenge, which opens September 19 at the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art.
This is one of the museum’s most popular shows, offering sales of contemporary art in the months before Christmas. A total of $4,000 in awards will be presented to artists exhibit works in 2D and 3D.
Jurors for the exhibit were nationally-known artists as well: Jim Tanner of Minnesota, a ceramist, and Ron Pokrasso of New Mexico, a print maker.The accepted artists include a number from Mississippi as well as those from California to Texas to New York. Many are art professors at major universities and others are esteemed artists in their own regions.
The exhibit will run through November 6.

Ohio Artists in Dresden Saturday, April 19th, 2008Connections II features artwork by 14 artists who participated in the Ohio Arts Council’s Individual Creativity international residencies program, which has long been recognized as a leader in international cultural arts exchanges among state arts agencies.

April 26 – June 7 OHIO ART LEAGUE SPRING JURIED EXHIBITION This exhibit brings to Springfield the newest of the new in art work being made in the state of Ohio. Known for cutting edge art, the Ohio Art League was started as a student league in Columbus, Ohio in 1909 and has continued to bring the newest work to the forefront. Phoenix Rising : Summer Series


Watercolor Monoprints (teens and up) Saturday, May 17, 2:00-5:00pm
Instructor: Cindy Davis 2.5 hour session $30.00 includes all materials
This is an easy introduction to printmaking. Participants will produce one or more monoprints by painting on prepared plexiglass. Bring an 8x10 photo or drawing to trace or work from your imagination.
No experience required.


Easy Reduction Relief Prints Saturday, August 2, 10am-1:00pm
Instructor: Joan Tallan 3 hour session $40 fee includes all materials
Creating reduction relief prints using “Foamies” is a fast and easy way to make multicolored prints and requires no tools other than scissors or Xacto knives. Bring a drawing, tracing or photo/computer scan to use for your inspiration. No experience required.


Reduction Relief Prints Sunday, June 8, 2:00-5:00pm
Instructor: Eliana Saari 3 hour session $40 fee includes all materials Explore the reductive relief method used by Pablo Picasso and create an edition of multicolored relief prints using one piece of linoleum. No experience required.


Solarplate Etching - 2 day workshop Wed & Thurs July 9 & July 10
Instructor: Anne Cushman $90.00 includes all materials
Day 1- 2 hour session, 1:00-3:00 / Day 2- 3 hour session, 12:30 – 3:30
Explore an innovative intaglio printmaking method using water and UV light instead of acid. Artwork may be created by drawing, computer printout, opaque ink or paint, found objects, etc. Participants are
encouraged to bring a design on a transparency or acetate to fit a 5” x 7” plate. Class Limit - 6

Registration Instructions: Class size is limited, minimum class size is 6 persons. Payment for any workshop is required a minim of 1 week prior to the event date - your check is your reservation. Connections II: Ohio Artists Abroad
January 24 -April 6, 2008

Connections II features artwork by 14 artists, including Phoenix Member Stephanie Sypsa who participated in the Ohio Arts Council's Individual Creativity international residencies program. The OAC has long been recognized as a leader in international cultural arts exchanges among state arts agencies. Over the years the OAC has developed global partnerships, including residencies, with several countries. The artists in Connections II took part in opportunities established in Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic. These artists immersed themselves in their host communities and acted as cultural ambassadors for Ohio.
